2008 Infiniti G37

The 2008 Infiniti G37 is the new version of the company's very popular luxury sports coupe. In previous years it was referred to as the G35, the new designation being given because of the larger engine. The redesign was largely prompted by the need to keep up with the performance of the other cars in its class. As more and more competitors have entered the luxury sport market Infiniti have found it necessary to upgrade the car to maintain their position in the category. In this respect they have been very successful as the G37 is an outstanding car.

The Infiniti G37 is one of the few vehicles that can honestly be referred to as a luxury sports coupe. It does both luxury and sport very well. Most other cars in the category tend to focus more on one or the other. The G37 has outstanding handling; it is very nimble with sensitive steering allowing it to really get around the corners. Normally the trade off for this is a very stiff suspension that makes for a bit of a rough ride. Somehow the G37 manages to avoid this problem; it offers the comfortable ride that you would expect of a luxury car while at the same time providing the performance of a sports car.

The only engine available for the G37 is a 3.7 liter V6 producing 330 horse power. A five speed automatic transmission is available standard with a six speed manually available as an option. Oddly performance seems to be about the same with either transmission option. The fuel economy is about middle of the road for a car of this class with the manual transmission having a slight advantage.

Both exterior body styling of the G37 and the interior design are of a very high quality. The car looks good on the outside while on the inside it has all of the features that you would expect in a luxury car. The controls are well laid out and very user friendly and the quality of the materials used is excellent. The only downside is that the rear seats are basically useless. The only people who can really fit into them would be small children; they lack both leg room and head room. Of course this is true of almost all sports coupes.

All of the standard safety features are there; this would include air bags, anti-lock brakes, and traction and stability control. The Infiniti G37 is largely in a class by itself, it is quite a bit cheaper than the other cars that offer similar performance and it seriously out performs most of the other cars in its price range. In general most of its direct competitors tend to focus more on comfort than performance. The G37 however takes the opposite approach and focuses on performance. The results have been very popular with the buying public.
