The 2008 Nissan Altima Coupe is the two door version of the company's very popular Altima sedan. The sedan version is already one of the best in its class so you know the coupe is going to be good as well. Unlike a lot of companies who would have just taken a Coupe body and put it right on the sedan chassis, but not Nissan. They actually shortened the whole cart in order to give it a more attractive appearance. There are a variety of engine choices available ranging from the 2.5 liter to the 3.5 liter. Obviously the choice of engine will affect the cost and the performance.
The strange thing about the Nissan Altima Coupe is that it feels fast even though it isn't particularly fast. When you put it on the track and look at the numbers it doesn't look particularly good. However for some reason when you are driving it on the street it somehow just feels like it is a fast car. This is in large part down to the engine and the transmission. The power is delivered very smoothly which gives the impression of much greater acceleration than there actually is.
The real secret to the Nissan Altima Coupe's performance is the CVT transmission. You can get a six speed manual if you want but why you would is beyond me. The CVT transmission gives almost instantaneous acceleration. Unlike the old days when you pushed on the accelerator and there was a lag before the car started to accelerate this doesn't happen with the Altima. The CVT transmission also greatly improves fuel economy. The car with the six speed manual can't even come close to it in terms of fuel economy.
The area where the Nissan Altima Coupe really outshines the competition is when it comes to handling. This is a nimble little car that can handle the curves much better than other cars in its class. Although oddly it doesn't seem to be any better than the sedan version despite the shorter wheelbase. When it comes to braking the Altima Coupe is about average, it is no better and no worse than the other cars in its class. The standard Altima Coupe comes with antilock brakes and airbags but things like stability control are going to cost you extra.
The 2008 Nissan Altima Coupe is what it is; it's a family car that offers good performance. In terms of amenities it is somewhat bare but it does come with a good price tag. You have to understand what you are buying if you choose the Altima, if you are looking for a high performance car than you are going to have to look elsewhere. However if you are looking for an affordable car that you can have fun with while driving the kids around the Altima is an excellent choice.
