Originally the Boxster was introduced to provide a low cost option for people who wanted a Porsche but couldn't afford the price tag that comes with them. Over the years the price has kept creeping up as the car has been improved so that now the 2008 Porsche Boxster isn't even the cheapest vehicle that the company offers. That being said compared to most of the other cars sold by Porsche the price is very affordable. The performance of the Boxster is outstanding; this is a serious sports car. A lot of people write the Boxster off as being the cheap Porsche and believe that it can't match its big brothers in performance. This is just plain untrue.
The Porsche Boxster is a sports car pure and simple. It is not one of those cars that tries to satisfy the needs of everybody. It has very sensitive steering and a very stiff suspension making for outstanding cornering ability. The car goes around bends like it is glued to the road. The acceleration is excellent and so is the throttle response. You are unlikely to find a more fun car to drive anywhere. That being said some people find the Boxster to be a little bit uncomfortable for driving around town. This is mainly due to the stiff suspension.
One of the reasons for the increased price in the Boxster is that they have significantly upgraded the engines from those offered on previous models. The standard now is a 2.7 litre flat six with a 3.4 litre option available. These give the car plenty of power. The standard transmission is a five speed manual but a six speed is available as an option. If you prefer you can also get a five speed automatic transmission with manual shift control.
The interior of the Boxster is what you would expect to find on a car of its quality. The seats are really one of the most impressive features; they are very comfortable and provide ample room. The materials used in the interior are all top of the line. There is also a fairly large trunk which allows you to carry quite a bit for a two seat sports car. One issue that many people face is trying to figure out all of the controls. They can be confusing and it does take some time to get used to them.
It goes without saying that all of the expected safety features are there, anti-lock brakes, air bags, stability control and traction control are all offered standard. The Porsche Boxster is really a very impressive car. Introduced as a low cost alternative it has grown into a seriously good sports car in its own right. It is easily the best in the roadster class, at least in terms of performance. On the other hand it does cost more than other cars in its class as well. Most people would tell you that it was money well spent.
